Today, May 2 , we celebrate World Bloggers Day . A symbolic date that gives me the opportunity to stop for a moment and reflect on what it means, in 2025, to have a fashion blog. It seems like yesterday that this word – blog – invaded the web, bringing a wave of new voices, often fresh and independent, that have revolutionized the storytelling of fashion. But today? What really remains of fashion blogs, and what place do they occupy in a landscape dominated by social media, AI and hit-and-run content?

What was a blog yesterday
The "blogosphere" experienced its boom between 2005 and 2013 .
In those years, starting a blog meant opening a window on the world : anyone with an internet connection and something to say could suddenly reach global readers. The first cooking, lifestyle, travel and – obviously – fashion blogs were born.
Fashion blogs , in particular, revolutionized the way of reporting on this sector: for the first time, catwalks were no longer the preserve of glossy magazines. Ordinary girls and boys showed off their daily outfits, told their personal vision of style, provided reviews of brands and collections, offered a fresh and direct look that was missing from the sector's publishing, still too restrictive as well as categorical, until around 2008 , when the very first fashion bloggers were invited to some fashion shows, including the much talked about Tavi Gevinson .
Some bloggers then became real icons, leading their blogs to have affiliations and collaborations with big brands, until Instagram and YouTube arrived to simplify the work.
When Everything Changed: The Social Revolution
In the last ten years, however, the landscape has changed radically. Instagram first, then TikTok , have made everything faster, more visual, more immediate. Social media have led people to consume content quickly , rewarding visual impact and brevity . In this new scenario, many blogs have lost ground, closing or transforming into simple support platforms for publishing lifestyle photos, collaborations with brands, unmasking the intention of many of these web champions fascinated by themselves and their image . Some have transformed into work support websites, others have continued to do their work, combining the topics mainly covered with content on how to really manage a blog, and among these I mention two of my favorite bloggers: Sabrina Barbante and Fashionsnobber .
What it REALLY means to be a blogger
Writing a blog is not just about being a good communicator and actor of your own life, but it means providing real information, providing users with a new reality among the infinite possibilities of vision , through storytelling, in-depth analysis and your own personal experience. It is a hobby or a job that requires real constant study, which cannot be limited to photos of outfits, trips and reviews agreed in advance with brands.
In a historical moment in which attention is fragmented and the surface dominates, a blogger provides his contents to the web and readers for free, contents that will always be searched for in search engines and that will always be easy to find, instead of scrolling an infinite feed. The strength of the blog lies in the possibility of creating long form content , reasoned and personal, that builds a deeper bond with the reader and that remains usable even after years.
Why start a blog today?
Being a blogger today requires a lot of patience: Competition with social media is very high, growth is slow, but the advantage is that it allows you to build your digital identity more solidly, to develop critical thinking and – something not to be underestimated – to train your writing and communication skills , tools that remain valuable in any field.
There is also a “human” dimension that should not be forgotten: behind every blog there is a real person, with passions, ideas, time spent and a lot of dedication. And if it is true that today the algorithm seems to command everything, it is equally true that the most attentive readers look for valuable content , different and not a copy of words taken from another blogger or from a newspaper.

What is the purpose of a fashion blog today?
As far as fashion is concerned, the change has been even more marked. Today images dominate: fashion shows, campaigns and trends are summarized in a few seconds of video. But the blog still has (and perhaps today more than before) an essential role: it can tell the real stories behind the clothes, explore trends in a critical way, give space to small emerging realities that do not find visibility elsewhere, and give space to ordinary people who admire, desire and choose clothes.
My Dialoghi di Stile was born with this ambition: not only to show, but to tell fashion . In two years I have seen how hungry there is for authentic content, for true reflections, for stories that speak to people and not just to numbers.
Do you remember the first article? posted on this blog and the various reasons why you "shouldn't" follow a new fashion blog today?
I firmly believe that there will always be room for those who have something true and original to say, in any niche.
If you are here reading these lines, you are already part of this small but precious slow revolution . I thank you, because without attentive and curious readers like you, the work of us bloggers would have no meaning.
Happy World Bloggers Day to all those who still believe in the power of words and authentic content.
And to those who dream of starting a blog: Do it! This is the right time. We need you too !
